CHECK THE CREDENTIALS
1.Every moving company must be properly licensed to operate in
Connecticut. (All the moving companies listed in CT Movers.com
are
licensed companies). Ask the mover if he is properly
licensed in Connecticut, legitimate movers will gladly comply
with your request and show you documentation. You can also call
the Connecticut DOT at 860/ 594-2875 to verify the mover is
licensed by the State of Connecticut. Check here.
WARNING: Use caution in choosing a
mover from the Internet. Many sites advertise movers with out
checking their credentials. Always choose a licensed and insured
mover. NEVER use a "broker", always deal directly with a licensed mover.
CHECK WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
2. Call the Better Business Bureau. Complaints for movers affiliated with vanlines, will be
listed under the vanline's name. CT Movers does not endorse the BBB since their paying members may get better, but undeserved ratings than non-members. In the past the BBB has given "good" ratings to some very unscrupulous movers. DO NOT rely on the BBB rating alone when choosing a mover.
TALK WITH THE OWNER
3. An owner who is proud of the work his company does, will
gladly tell you so. If you are not able to get through to the
owner before the move, will he be available after the move if a
problem should arise?
CHECK OUT THEIR OPERATIONS
4.Vist the movers warehouse to see their operation. Check to
see that their warehouse and equipment is well maintained. After
all if they don’t take care of their property will they take
care of yours? Also if you will require storage in their
facility, you’ll want to make sure their warehouse is clean and
dry.
DON’T BE PRESSURED
5.A legitimate company will not try to sell you with high
pressure tactics. Instead they should motivate you to purchase
their services based on their reputation and quality of work. A
professional mover will not criticize other companies to make
themselves look better.
WORD OF MOUTH IS BEST
6. Check with family and friends. Their satisfaction with a
company is a good indication that you also will receive good
service.
CONSIDER THE HIGHEST ESTIMATE
7.Since most major moving companies use the same tariff
(itemized charges for each service they perform) your final
charges won't differ much from company to company for the same
services and weight. The company with the highest estimate is
probably offering you the most realistic price while low-ball bids could mask less reliable moving practices. Use several factors in addition to price such as references and performance reports.
